The beginning started out slow and easy. the far view was beautiful but we hiked through some pretty thick jungle mess and due to a late start, we had to make camp only a few miles in. I didn't really mind... I was lugging around about 40 lbs. on my back.
The first night was filled with rain and although my shoe's were under the tent cover they still got soaked. I had to deal with it and hike on, 9 more miles that day. Unfortunately the rain left the trails extremely slick and I busted! My hip got a little strained, nothing to bad for an average day but with the pack and slick, extremely thin trail, I was in for a bad day.
The people taking tours of the coast in boats would yell and wave at us. We also saw a lot of helicopters and a few topless hikers... even topless lady hikers. It turns out the beach was full of topless people, several completely nude couples and a few homeless people who now call the beach home. The trail we took was narrow in some places, to the point that if you fall you die. It was a lot of fun but difficult to hike up the hills, then down the valleys for so long.
Here are a few pictures of the 2nd day, miles 2-9.
Some parts of the trail were not so tropical looking. It actually reminded me a lot of hiking in Palo Duro Canyons. Also, there were goats! I loved them.
